Prayer point
Each spring, Eternal Foundations hosts a
contemplative prayer retreat at the old California Mission San
Miguel Archangel in San Miguel, California. This retreat is an
adventure into intimacy with the Lord for which many have been
searching. God is reviving the ancient church practice of Contemplative
Prayer. During the retreat you will learn how the ancient church “mystics” and
others such as the Quakers have developed this type of prayer
as an avenue for intimacy with our Bridegroom. This is a time
to come and meet with God. When you leave you will take with
you the tools to continue this most intimate communion with our
Lord.
During the day, retreat workshops focus
on the practice of contemplative prayer: what it is, different
ways to implement this type of prayer and how to integrate contemplative
prayer into our busy lives. Each workshop concludes with time
to sit in the garden, the chapel or your room and practice what
you have learned. Evening services are spent basking in the presence
of the Lord as we move into intimate times of prophetic worship,
silence and communion with the Lord.
This historic California mission was founded
in 1797 and appears much the same today as when it was first
founded. It stands as one of California’s best preserved
and authentic reminders of the past. Franciscan Padres still
serve the parish church, novitiate and retreat house. Our rooms
have that old mission feel to them with two twin beds, a desk,
closet and a sink. Bathrooms are at the end of the restored adobe
hallways. Our meeting room is adjacent to a lovely garden and
the old mission dining room overlooks the beautiful, large interior
garden of the mission quadrangle. It truly is a place to find
a quiet spot for contemplative prayer.
“I would have to say that the
Contemplative Prayer retreat was the best
retreat I have ever been to. It was truly a life changing experience for me
in that I have become aware of a whole new (to me) way of approaching God in
the intimacy of communion. Previously I thought I had an intimate
relationship with the Lord but now I see that it was more 'hit and miss'
than anything else. My devotional time has changed and I now understand
what is meant by Psalm 62:1, ‘My soul waits in silence for God alone;’”
